Riverside—Cal State Fullerton jumped on the Highlanders early Saturday evening, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings on their way to a 12-0 victory (Box Score).
The Titans (41-7, 17-3) topped UC Riverside 14-7 Friday evening, and it wouldn't get any easier Saturday as Cal State Fullerton sent Justin Garza and his 10-0 record to the mound. The freshman pitched five innings and allowed just three hits in picking up his 11th win of the year.
The Titans gave him all of the offense he would need in the first inning, as Fullerton pounded out five hits and scored six runs off of UCR starter Ben Doucette (2-6). It was more of the same in the second, as the Titans picked up five more hits and scored five more runs to go up 11-0.
The silver lining for the Highlanders came in the form of pitcher Angelo Lingos who relieved Doucette to start the third and allowed just five hits over six innings of work.
The UCR (10-28, 7-13) offense was unable to dent the scoreboard, however, as three Titans relievers threw three hitless frames to close out the game.
The Highlanders and Titans finish their three-game Big West Conference series on Sunday beginning at 1 pm PT.
