Volleyball Opens Season With Alumni Match Sunday At 1 PM

Riverside—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team gets its season underway this weekend with a match against its alumni on Sunday, August 25. The contest starts at 1 pm PST at the SRC Arena and is free for all spectactors.
The Highlanders regular season then begins on August 30 against Texas Tech in the first game of the Wildcat Invitational in Ogden, Utah.
UC Riverside is in its first season under new head coach Michelle Patton. Patton comes to the Highlanders following five seasons at San Francisco State, where she took over a program that lay dormant for four years (2004-07). The Gators advanced to two NCAA Tournaments during Patton's tenure including a 21-9 mark in 2012 which included a program-record 16 conference victories.
The Highlanders return three starters and eight letter winners from last year's squad which recorded the most wins for the program since the 2005 squad went 16-11.
