Bridge And Ngo Win In Singles, But Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision To Weber State

Las Vegas, Nevada—The UC Riverside Men's Tenns Team played its first of four matches this weekend on Friday morning, falling 5-2 to Weber State in a neutral-site contest.
"To say we are disappointed is an understatement," Head Men's Tennis Coach Tim Downey stated. "The guys know this is a match they should have won."
In doubles, the Wildcats earned the first point of the day winning matches at the first and third spots.
In singles, the Highlanders earned two victories as Cooper Bridge defeated Landon Barlow in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at #4, and Calvin Ngo won in straight sets over Caio Poitena at #5, 6-5, 6-1.
All of the other four UCR matches were close, but Weber State pulled them out for the win.
"Weber State played steady and consistent and we accommodated them with too many unforced errors," Downey continued. "We need to be more patient in setting up our points. It was definitely an improvement but we have a tough road ahead.
"We have to step up our level of play. Throughout the season so far, I am proud of how they represent UCR with competitiveness and class."
The Highlanders remain in Las Vegas to play New Mexico State on Saturday followed by a pair of matches on Sunday against Southern Mississippi and UNLV.
