Harris Drives In Three Including Game-Winning Sac Fly In Game 1 vs. Belmont

Riverside—Haley Harris drove in all three UC Riverisde runs, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, as the Highlanders picked up a 3-2 victory over Belmont in game one o fa Thursday afternoon double header (box score).
Alyssa Razo gave up back-to-back base hits to the Bruins to start the game, but setted down immediately thereafter allowing just two hits over the next four innings.
The Highlanders put runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings, but didn't break into the scoring column until the bottom of the third.
Karina Romero singled up the middle, and lead-off hitter Dionne Anderson dropped a bunt down in front of the plate that none of the Bruins' fielders could handle. Romero alertly advanced to third when she realized that nobody was covering the bag. After Anderson swiped her second base of the day, Harris drove in a pair with a double to left center.
It looked like that was all the Highlanders would need, but the Bruins solved Razo in the top of the sixth beating out three consecutive base hits for their first run of the day, and tying the score on an RBI ground out by Amy Zeronian.
Sophie Slagle came on in relief of Razo to start the top of the seventh, and she retired the first two batters she faced, but Ashley Hammer drilled a double down the left field line to put a runner in scoring position with two outs. A balk moved her up 90 feet, but Jessica Wilson grounded out to short to end the threat.
Taylor Wright led of the bottom off the seventh with a walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Anderson then singled to center, but Wright was only able to advance to third as she made certain the ball wasn't caught. Harris then lifted a sac fly down the right field line to give the Highlanders the win.
UCR faces off against Belmont in game two of the doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
