San Diego, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team remains on the road this week traveling to San Diego State Tuesday evening for a 6 pm PT first pitch against the Aztecs.
The Highlanders (14-17) have dropped five straight including a 4-3 loss at San Diego State on April 8 (box score/recap). The upcoming weeks don't get any easier for UC Riverside, as following a three game homestand against UC Davis this weekend, the Highlanders play 11 straight games against teams receiving votes in the national polls.
UCR was batting over .300 as a team as late as March 25, but over the past 10 games, that average has dropped to .282.
Jordan Kron gets the first start of his collegiate career on Tuesday. The freshman right-hander is 1-4 on the season with a 4.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 17.2 innings of work.
San Diego State (25-11) was knocking on the door of the national polls last week, but the Aztecs got swept over the weekend in a three-game series at Nevada. SDSU was outscored by the Wolf Pack, 22-6.
Cody Thompson (4-2, 4.37) gets the start for the Aztecs, Tuesday. The right-hander has made 11 appearances on the season but just one start, striking out 17 in 22.2 innings.
San Diego State is batting .292/.473/.407 as a team led by Ty France who paces the squad in all three primary offensive categories—.394 batting average, .471 on base percentage, .621 slugging percentage.
In addition to their game against one another last Tuesday, UC Riverside and San Diego State met on February 25 of this year at The Plex. The Highlanders built a 7-1 lead through six innings that night, only to watch as the Aztecs scored seven runs over the final three frames to escape with the 8-7 win (box score/recap). UC Riverside is 21-38-1 all-time against San Diego State, and has dropped three in a row against the Aztecs (view all-time results).
