Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team returns home this week for a four-game home stand beginning with a Tuesday, April 29 meeting with #27 UNLV (28-15). First pitch is slated for 3 pm PT.
The Highlanders (18-21, 7-5) remain in third place in the Big West despite taking just one of three from UC Santa Barbara over the weekend. Long Beach State, who won two of three from the number one team in the nation, Cal Poly, pulled into a tie with UC Riverside, three-and-a-half games back of the Mustangs.
UCR's offense has struggled since the start of conference play. The Highlanders team batting average in Big West competition is .247. Thomas Walker (.333) is the lone member of the squad with a batting average north of .300, and his .404 on base percentage and .561 slugging percentage also lead the team.
Angel Landazuri (2-2, 4.00) will get the start for the Highlanders against UNLV. It is his second start of the season, along with 13 relief appearances. His first start came on April 22 at San Diego when he went three innings and gave up three hits and two runs in a 7-6 loss (box score/recap).
The Rebels snapped a five-game losing streak over the weekend sweeping New Mexico by outscoring them 39-10 over the three-game series. UNLV plays in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the nation, and they have used it to their advantage posting an offensive slash line of .300/.364/.426 on the year.
The Rebels pitching, however, has been the story this season as they have dominated with an ERA of just 2.84 and 324 strikeouts in 384.0 innings of work.
The Highlanders are 17-8 all-time against UNLV, but the Rebels have won three straight and four of the last five against UC Riverside (view all-time results).
