Las Vegas, NV—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team traveled to Las Vegas Friday to take on Utah Valley in the first match of the UNLV Rebel Classic, but it was the Wolverines who scored early in the second half to come away with the 1-0 victory.

The first half was a defensive battle that saw just eight combined shots. The Wolverines had the only three shots on goal in the initial 45 minutes of play, and the teams entered the locker room tied at zero.

Utah Valley didn't take long to get on the board in the second period, as Payton Karson found Matt Gay in the 49th minute for his fourth goal of the season.

Juan Mendoza Jr. and James Alewine III each had shots on goal in the second, but Wolverines keeper Derek Wilcox saved them both as Utah Valley picked up the 1-0 win.

The Highlanders remain in Las Vegas this weekend taking on the host Lobos on Sunday in their final match of the UNLV Rebel Classic. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm PT.
