Palisades, CA—UC Riverside Men's Golfer David Gazzolo is one of 14 collegians participating in the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase on Monday, February 16 at Riviera Country Club in Palisades, California.

This unique event is a one-day competition made of of four-person teams. Each team is represented by a collegiate player, two amateurs, and a touring pro who is also an alumnus of the collegian's university. Other schools participating in the Showcase are Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Oregon State, Oregon, Pepperdine, Pacific, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and Wake Forest.

Gazzolo is teaming up with current PGAer Brendan Steele '05 who was a part of two Big West Conference Championship Teams at UC Riverside, and finished second at the Humana Challenge last weekend.

Within the four-person teams, there are two different competitions. In one competition, the professional and the two amateurs (playing 75 percent of their most current and verified handicap) are teaming up to play a best ball format (one-ball). The low professional and amateur team will take home the Champions Trophy for their school, and a check for $50,000 going to their universities golf program.

In the second competition, the collegiate players will play their own ball to record an 18-hole score. The low collegian will be awarded a trophy along with a playing spot in the 2015 Northern Trust Open.
