Strong Second Half Fuels Highlanders In, 92-70, Win At Seattle

Box Score Seattle, WA—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team responded from its lowest offensive output of the season on Friday, with its highest scoring output of the season in a 92-70 win over Seattle University.

The Highlanders (6-6) outscored the Redhawks (5-7) 59-35 in the second half, on the strength of five players in double figures, led by Rejane Verin's career-high 27 points, 11-rebound double-double effort.

In the first half both teams shot over 40% from the field, but the Highlanders went 1-9 from three point range, and trailed the Redhawks at the break 35-33.
Rejane Verin led all first half scorers with 13 points, while Tal Sahar paced Seattle with 11.

At the 7:10 mark in the third quarter trailing 41-40, UCR outscored the home team 9-1, in a run that included five Brittany Crain points, to go along with jumpers Verin and Simone DeCoud.

The Highlanders would not trail again in the quarter, and would enter the fourth period leading 64-54.

Midway through the final quarter of play with 4:52 remaining the highlanders were leading 76-61, when DeCoud nailed a three pointer, then stole the ball, and converted a lay-up on the other end to push the UCR advantage to 20 points.

The Highlanders would maintain the 20 plus point margin, en route to their second road victory of the year, 92-70.

Verin's career-high 27 points, and 11 rebounds, gave her a second double-double on the season, and were game highs.

Sahar led Seattle University with 23 points and went 6-of-10 from long distance, while Taelor Ross chipped in 18 points in the loss.

Rounding out the five UC Riverside players in double figures were Annelise Ito with 17, Crain 16, Michelle Curry 11, and Simone DeCoud poured in a season-high 21 points.

The Highlanders are off the for the holiday break, but return to the hardwood Monday, December 28 at 7 pm, against #19 UCLA at the SRC Arena on San Bernardino Strong Night.
