Box Score Riverside- The UC Riverside Softball Team is now 32-12 overall and 4-5 in the Big West after topping Cal State Fullerton in the final of the three-game series, 8-1 Sunday afternoon.

Starting on the mound and earning her 24th victory was redshirt junior Chelsea Ponce. She threw five innings, striking out two and giving up three hits. Coming in to relieve Ponce was freshman Rebecca Faulkner who earned her fifth save of the season. Faulkner leads the conference in saves.

The Highlanders kicked things off in the bottom of first in style as senior Karina Romero launched her first home run of the season over the left field fence.

The Titans would score their only run of the game in the top of the third off a single by Samantha Galarza to bring in a runner from second.

UC Riverside would push across the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth as Faulkner and Haley Harris started the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out on the board after a failed but attempt, Kris DeAnda advanced the runners to scoring position with a single to center field. That brought to the plate senior Taylor Wright who gave up a sacrifice fly, bringing in the first run of the inning. Harris scored the second run with aggressive base running, sliding into home after a wild pitch.

Up 3-1 in the fifth inning, the Highlanders found themselves in a two-out and two runners on situation. Coming to the plate was Eliza Crawford who launched a deep fly ball to right field. Going back was Romero who stretched, snagging the fly ball and saving the Highlanders from a potential three-run homer to end the inning.

The Highlanders' offense then exploded in the sixth inning, scoring the final five runs of the game that included a two-run homer by Chelsey Holley, her third on the season. Two out of the four hits by UCR were doubles by seniors DeAnda and Romero.

UC Riverside is back in action Saturday April, 18 as the travel to CSUN for a double header beginning at 12 pm PT.
