Box Score Riverside- The UC Riverside Softball Team is 36-17 on the season with a 8-10 conference mark after falling to UC Santa Barbara in game three Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
Chelsea Ponce threw the entire game for the Highlanders, giving up seven hits, matching those with seven strike outs, and allowing three runs.
The Highlanders struck first in today's game scoring what would be their only runs of the game in the top of the first inning. Lead-off batter Jenna Curtan reached on a walk, advancing to second on the next play when Madeline Richard singled to third base. UCSB earned their first out on a pop up by Natalie Sanchez, bringing to the plate Karina Romero. Romero singled to right field and advanced to second on an error, not before bringing in both Curtan and Richard.
The Gauchos responded, bringing around two runs in the bottom half of the third inning on two hits and taking advantage of one Highlander miscue.
With the game knotted at 2-2, the Highlanders took the field in the seventh to try and send the game into extra frames. UC Santa Barbara started the inning with a single to short stop. UCR snagged its first out with a grounder to second and throw out at first, with the runner advancing to second. The Gauchos would score its winning run on the next play with a single up the middle by Arianna Palomares.
The Highlanders return to Amy S. Harrison field for their last series of the season Friday, May 8 as they take on Cal Poly at 12 pm PT.
