After a scoreless two innings, the Mustangs' lone senior, Emily Ceccacci launched a home run over right field in the top of the fifth. It seemed the Highlanders' had a response for everything as freshman Chelsey Holley led off the bottom half of the inning with a line-drive home run to the opposite left field. UCR then capitalized on two miscues by Cal Poly's defense and a double by Natalie Sanchez, giving the Highlanders a, 5-2 advantage.
Putting the punctuation on game one's victory was Holley, who homered again, this time sending the ball over center field. She is the third Highlander to hit two home runs in a single game, joining Sanchez and Faulkner.
The Highlanders found a spark from the batter's box in game two of the day, hammering out 12 hits, while keeping Cal Poly's offense at three. UC Riverside scored in all but two innings, holding the Mustangs to their lone run in the second inning.
The Highlanders will wrap up their series against Cal Poly on Senior Day, Saturday, May 9 at 12 pm PT.
