Men's Soccer Battles Into Overtime With St. Mary's But Has To Settle For 1-1 Draw

Box Score Moraga, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against St. Mary's Sunday afternoon, but the Gaels evened the score in the second half, and neither team was able to break the tie in overtime.

The Highlanders took a one-goal lead in the sixth minute of play when Michael Salazar sprinted down the left side of the field and beat the Gaels' keeper to the far upper corner. It is the third goal of the season for the senior forward, and the ninth of his UCR career.

That score held up through intermission, but with 10 minutes gone in the second period, Max Miner found Kendall Will with a cross, tying the score on Will's second goal of the year.

The Highlanders nearly netted the golden goal in the first extra stanza as a Salazar header bounced off the crossbar in the 93rd minute, but the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

UC Riverside returns home this weekend for a Friday, September 25 meeting with San Jose State. Kick off is slated for 7:30 pm PT
