Stockton, CA—Matt Lutz fired a bogey-free seven under-par 64 to come within a shot of the program record in the on day two of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite (
leaderboard).
Lutz moved up the leader 45 spots to 10th, after besting his opening round 76 by 12 strokes. He started his round on the tenth, and birdied the no. 11 and no. 16 on his first nine, before lighting up the holes 1-9 with five birdies.
The junior from Placentia, CA made birdie on 1 and 2, prior closing out the round with birdies on three of his final four holes—the 137 yard, par 3 8th saw him make par. For Lutz, Friday's performance was the seventh round in the 60s of his career and it eclipsed his previous career-best round, a six-under 66 in the opening round of the Tucson NCAA Regional.
The program record of 63 is shared by Brendan Steele, who shot a nine-under (par 72) 63 in 2003-04 season, and Scott Clayton, who shot a seven-under 63 (par 70) in the 2009-10 campaign. (

The overall lead is still held by BYU's Rhett Rassmussen and Sacramento State's Aaron Beverly, who both carded two-under 69s.
The Highlanders sit 12th thanks to shaving 11 strokes off their round one total, and are just six shots back of the top-10. The team lead is held by BYU at -9, after a -7 team 277 in the second round. Seattle U is second at -2, and Sacramento State is third at -1.
Tomorrow's final round gets underway at 8:30 am for UCR.
