Verin's 28 Leads Three Players In Doubles Figures In, 80-74, Exhibition Win Over CBU

Riverside--The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team got 28 points from Réjane Vérin to lead three players in double figures in an, 80-74, exhibition win over Cal Baptist. (box score / play-by-play

The first half was played at close range, with the Highlanders holding a one-point advantage heading into break. Vérin led all scorers with 15 points first half points. Lauren Holt had nine points on 4-7 shooting. 

CBU was led by Courtney Nelson's nine points.

The third period saw the DII visitors establish their only lead of the second half with 7:12 to play at 45-43. Michelle Curry then had a layup to tie up the game and get the things back in order. The Lancers would keep pace with the blue and gold at 49 all until the Highlanders went on a 11-5 run to close out the quarter. 

UCR opened the fourth with a 6-0 spurt in which newcomers Malou De Kergret and Marina Ewodo each scored to make it a 12-point margin at 66-54. CBU would cut the lead to just two before UC Riverside regained control and eventually went on to the 80-74 victory.

Vérin shot 13-20 in amassing a game-high 28 points. She was joined by Holt with 16 and Curry's 13 in double figures. Kamille Diaz poured in 18 points for Cal Baptist, who also got 15 from Nelson in the loss.

The Highlanders open the regular season on November 11th at 5 pm at home against San Diego State.
