Sherman (15) And Maietta (13) Notch Double-Digit Kills In, 3-0, Defeat At CSUN

Northridge—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team got double-digit kills from Mickayla Sherman and Cristina Maietta in a, 3-0, defeat at CSUN Tuesday night.
In the opening set, the Highlanders found themselves down, 20-12, before rallying to win 10 out of 14 points to cut the Matador margin to just two at, 24-22. Maietta each had three kills and Sherman two in the run, before CSUN escaped with the first set, 25-22.
The second set was played at close range, and tied at 20 apiece. Outside hitter Aeryn Owens then came up with kills on three of the final four CSUN points en route to claiming the second, also by a score of 25-22.
UC Riverside got out to a, 9-5, advantage early in the third, but the home side climbed into the set with a 5-1 run to things up at 10 all. CSUN rode that momentum to a 19-16 lead, before taking seven out of ten points down the stretch to take third set, 25-19 and the match, 3-0.
Sherman finished with a match-high 15 kills, while Maietta tallied 13—they also added seven digs apiece. Freshman setter Angela Gonzalez (Santa Ana, CA / Mater Dei) logged a career-high 29 assists, and Maddie Hubbell added 15 digs to her program leading career total.
The Matadors were paced by Owens and Julie Haake with 14 kills each.
UCR returns home to host Cal State Fullerton Friday, November 4 at 7 pm PT.
