Box Score 2 Tempe, AZ- The UC Riverside Softball Team (2-3) picked up its second win of the season in their final game of the Kajikawa Classic, 4-1, over Seattle University (1-3) in seven innings.
The Highlanders split the final two games of the event, falling to Wisconsin (4-1) in the first game of the day, 9-1, in five innings.
UC Riverside's Tayler Misfeldt allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning against Seattle U. The Highlanders responded in the top of the second inning, when Stephanie Tickemyer homered with two aboard to stake the team to a 3-1 lead.
In the third, Madeline Richard got an infield hit and stole second, before scoring on a Natalie Sanchez single to left to make it a, 4-1, UCR advantage. Misfeldt would scatter five hits over the final six innings for her second complete game victory of the season.
In the first game of the day, Wisconsin scored two runs on four hits in the top of the first. UCR scored in the home half of the first, when Tickemyer singled to left to drive in Haley Harris.
The Badgers would tack on two runs in the third to lead 4-1, and would also add another in the fourth. In the fifth, they would bring across four runs on just two hits after getting two walks and stealing two bases.The Highlanders were unable to score in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, and suffered their third loss of the season, 9-1.
After five games played this season, Madeline Richard (.467) leads the team in hitting, Chelsey Holley (3) and Stephanie Tickemyer (3) share the team lead in RBI's, while Tayler Misfeldt (2-2) has two complete game wins to her credit.
UC Riverside Softball returns home to face Canisius Monday in a double header, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 noon.
