Davis—For the second time this week, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball team will face an opponent in the top third of the Big West conference. Tonight they'll take on the Aggies of UC Davis in their second meeting of the regular season at 7 pm inside The Pavillion.
Thursday night, Brittany Crain had 28 points to lead five starters in double figures, as UCR (18-7, 11-0) completed the season sweep of Long Beach State (18-7, 7-4) with an, 83-58 home victory.
The Highlanders forced the 49ers into 19 turnovers, which they converted into 22 points. Crain's 28 led all scorers. Simone DeCoud poured in 17 points, grabbed eight boards and dished out six assists.
Michelle Curry had a perfect shooting night in scoring 15 points,Verin had 11 points, 11 boards for her third straight double double, and Inara Nyingifa scored a career-high 10 points.
Crain is now 16th in the country at 21.3 points a game, and the Highlanders remain in the top-5 in assists per game—4th with 19.8.
UC Davis (15-10, 8-4) had won three straight since falling to UCR on February 4th, but were defeated at Hawai'i Thursday, 70-50. In the loss they were led by Morgan Bertsch's 22 points, while no other player scored more than six for the Aggies. They committed 18 turnovers and were outrebounded 42-30 by the Rainbow Wahine.In the first meeting of season, UC Davis jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the first meeting of the season. UCR responded with an, 11-0, run and never trailed again. The Highlanders held off a fourth quarter charge from the Aggies to remain undefeated in conference play in an, 80-73, victory.
