Cross Country Hosts Big West Championships Saturday At Ag/Ops Course

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams host the Big West Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, October 28. The Women's 6k begins at 8:30 am PT, and the Men's 8k starts at 9:15 am. The awards ceremony begins at 10 am.
Cost to attend the championships is $5 per person. Children two and under, as well as Big West students with school ID, are admitted free of charge.

MEET NOTES
LAST TIME OUT
The UC Riverside Women's Cross Country Team finished in third place (story) and the Men's Team came in fourth (story) at the 6th Annual Highlanders Invitational. Faith Makau (17:01.2) and Weslie Pearce (17:14.0) finished second and third respectively on the Women's side, with Emily Sanchez (17:36.6) not far behind in eight place. On the Men's side, Solomon Demeku-Ousman posted his best finish of the year, coming in fifth place to pace the Highlanders.
THE HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST
Including this Saturday's running, the Highlanders' Ag/Ops course has played host to the Big West Conference Championship 11 times in UC Riverside's 17 years in the league.
ARMAN HAMMER
Redshirt sophomore Arman Irani has led the way for UC Riverside in three of the team's four races this season. He has yet to finish outside of the top-20 this year, and has two top-10 finishes.
KING SOLOMON
Solomon Demeku-Ousman may be peeking at the right time. His fifth place finish in the Highlander invitational on October 14 was his top finish of the year, and his best finish since the 2016 Highlander Invitational when he came in fourth place.

Although Arman Irani has been the Highlanders most consistent finisher. leading UC Riverside in all three of his races this year, the Highlanders have had four different studnet-athletes finish in second place, and four different players take third, in their four meets this season.

The Highlanders travel to the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday, November 10 in Seattle, Washington. Jefferson Golf Course is the site of this year's regionals.

DIRECTIONS
The Ag/Ops Course is located adjacent to campus on the 420-acre Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station on the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Canyon Crest Drive. The course is 85 percent flat with a few rolling hills, hard packed dirt with pre-competition watering to reduce dust.
Parking for home cross country meets is in Lot 30 located in the Northwest corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Canyon Crest Drive.
To reach the Ag/Ops Course from the 215/60 freeway, exit Martin Luther King and go West. Turn left at the Canyon Crest traffic light and travel approximately 300 meters to the course entrance on the right. For parking in Lot 30, continue straight on Martin Luther King.
