RIVERSIDE, Calif.--The UC Riverside Women's Golf team finished in 14th place at the Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, NM on Wednesday with a final team score of 925 (+61). However, senior Jakeishya Le was a bright spot for the team, tying for seventh overall.
The most consistent golfer throughout the Invitational, Le was the only golfer in the starting lineup to have played in the tournament before. In the first and final round, Le shot a 71 (-1). In the second round on Tuesday, she shot a 76 (+4).
Le tied for third overall with an average score of 2.92 (-1) on Par 3's and tied for seventh with an average score of 4.75 (-3) on Par 5's.
"Jakeishya pulled off an outstanding round despite hitting only 6 of 14 fairways and 9 of 18 greens in regulation," head coach Mary Ritchie said. "She had 26 putts, which clearly demonstrates where good scoring comes from."
After shooting a combined 304 in the first round, the team fell back a bit on Tuesday with a score of 315, before finishing the Invitational strong with a team score of 306.
UCR finished with an average score of 3.20 (+12) on Par 3's, which was sixth-best.
"Sometimes great outcomes take longer than we want, but that's when we need to dig in deeper and really trust that our process will produce," said Ritchie.
The Highlanders will play in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown starting on Oct. 21. It will be their last tournament of the fall season.
