Women's Volleyball Falls in 5 Sets at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.- The Highlanders came up just short Thursday night as the UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team (6-11, 1-5) fell 3-2 to host UC Davis (10-9, 2-5) after taking the first two sets.
UCR opened up the match continuing its momentum from last weekend's sweep over Cal State Fullerton and grabbing the first two sets with identical scores of 25-22.
In the 1st set, the Highlanders put together several runs including a 4-0 stint to kick off the match and led by as much as nine to take a 1-0 lead.
UC Riverside would go up 2-0 after trading off points for much of the 2nd set and eventually breaking away from the Aggies to go up 20-15.
With their backs against the wall, the Aggies would answer winning the next three sets 15-14-7 to take the match.
The Highlander attack was split Thursday evening as freshmen Nailah Jones and Cristina Escamilla both registered nine kills in the match.
Senior setter Chelsea Doyle posted a match-best 33 assists on the day and was 2nd on the Highlander defense with 18 digs. Sophomore Nicole Rodriguez topped the defense with 23 digs of her own.
UC Riverside will now head to UC Irvine this Saturday to face the host Anteaters.
