Cathedral City, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team (3-3) will head out to Cathedral City, California this weekend to compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Highlanders will face five opponents in three days starting with a matchup versus Army (1-5), Saturday morning.

UCR is coming off a win in its home opener as the Highlanders defeated San Diego State 4-1.

Following the game with Army, UC Riverside will have two doubleheaders facing Stanford (2-4) and Grand Canyon (3-3) on Sunday and ending the tournament Monday against Sacramento State (1-3) and Cal (5-0).

The Highlanders have found success in getting off to hot starts this season as they have scored 11 of their 24 runs in the first two innings and are a perfect 3-0 when they score first. The team has capitalized on its early opportunities boasting a .474 lead-off average.

Junior infielder Brittney Garcia has been getting it done offensively for UCR as she leads the team in batting average at .412 and RBIs with 5. Her average ranks 4th in the Big West Conference, among players with at least 15 at-bats, and her 5 RBIs rank 6th.

Senior pitcher Tayler Misfeldt has led the way from the circle as her 3 wins on the season top the Big West and her 25 strikeouts rank 3rd,

The Highlanders first game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, against Army, is set for this Saturday morning at 10 AM in Cathedral City, California.
