UC Riverside Defeated at Long Beach in Final Game of Regular Season

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC Riverside (9-21, 4-12) fell to Long Beach State (15-17, 9-7) 77-59 in its regular season finale Saturday night. Senior Chance Murray led the Highlanders with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, but UCR was outrebounded 41-27 and was outscored 15-0 in second chance points.

KEY RUNS
The 49ers jumped out to a 7-0 advantage from the opening tip and would hold the lead the rest of the way.

An 8-2 run later in the first half gave Long Beach its largest lead of the opening minutes, 43-25. The Highlanders weren't off from three-point range in the first half, connecting on 5-of-12 (.417) attempts, but had 10 turnovers compared to six for the 49ers, and were outshot by a wide margin (.533 to .370).

Long Beach's lead would grow as large as 24 points, 75-51, with less than three minutes left.

GAME NOTES
Chance Murray hit double-figures for the eighth straight game, double his previous career-long streak.

Sophomore guard Dikymbe Martin was an efficient 5-for-10 (.500) mark from the field, but finished with just 11 points in 27 minutes. Martin (1-3 3FG) ended a three-point drought that spanned several games, as he entered Saturday's game having gone 0-of-9 over his previous three contests.

Senior guard Koh Flippin went 2-of-4 (.500) from three-point range, knocking down a pair of triples for the second consecutive game. It's the second time he's done so in back-to-back games this season.

The No. 8 seed Highlanders will face No. 1 seed UC Davis on Thursday, Mar. 8 in a noon tip-off slate on Fox Sports West at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
