RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside (13-12, 3-2) put up nine hits for the fourth time in five games Saturday against CSUN (14-16, 3-2), but went scoreless over the final six innings before falling, 3-2, in the 11th.
Both of the Highlanders' runs came on an Anthony Lepre single in the bottom of the fifth. Nathan Webb and Colby Schultz both scored to give UCR a 2-1 advantage, after Webb had reached on a single followed by a Schultz double.
After making it to the bottom of the ninth with the score tied 2-2, the Highlanders found themselves in good position to go home with a win, loading the bases on a walk and two CSUN errors with no outs.
Unfortunately for UCR, that would be its last offensive action of the day, as the Matadors went on to win it in the top of the 11th on a run by Justin Toerner.
Schultz and Webb both led the way with two hits each. Freshman Cole Percival paced his team with six strikeouts in six innings pitched.
The Highlanders are now 1-1 in extra innings games this season. They will close out their series against the Matadors at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at The Plex.
