Softball Set for Amy S. Harrison Classic

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The Highlanders will step out on to their home field for the first time in the 2019 season tomorrow as the UC Riverside Softball Team is set to host the Amy S. Harrison Classic. The three day showdown in Riverside, CA features a unique group of teams with Maryland, Portland State, and UNLV all coming to UCR for a weekend of competition.

ABOVE AVERAGE
So far this season, both junior Danielle Ortega and senior Brittney Garcia hold an OBP over .500. Garcia leads the team at .531, Ortega follows at .529, and both players have combined for 23 hits.

WHEELS
The Highlanders have been successful when gambling on the base paths this year stealing nine bases in just ten attempts. In return they have not been as generous to their opponents throwing out two runners already this year.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Opening week, Haley Marschall earned her first career Big West Pitcher of the Week award after making three appearances in the USD Tournament.The junior earned a start, a win, and her first save since her freshmen season. She pitched a total of 11.0 innings allowing just one earned run on her way to a 0.64 ERA

FRESHMAN ON FIRE
Freshman Jantzen Owen made her presence known in her first weekend of NCAA competition. The catcher collected four hits, two doubles, and knocked in four RBI, which was the second most on the team. She added another two RBI on a double at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament this past weekend.

R'HOUSE
Following the matchup with CBU, the Highlanders will return home to host four tournaments in four straight weekends featuring various teams from different conferences.Tickets are available at gohighlanders.com/tickets.
