Men's Golf Finishes Strong at GCU Invitational

PHOENIX—The UC Riverside Men's Golf team shook off a tough day of competition on Friday and came back to finish strong in the final round on Saturday at the GCU Invitational.
After struggling through 36 holes of play on Friday, UCR made necessary adjustments that helped it move up the leaderboard and finish 15th overall. Â
The team's lineup for the tournament included: Michael Wong, Andrew Spilman, Sam He and Eddie Yi and Matthew Huo.
The Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon at the GCU Championship Golf Course, is a 7,136-yard, Par 71 layout.
The team finished with an overall score of 878 (+26) after shooting a combined 295 in the first round, 303 in the second round and 280 in the final round. He (+1) found the most success over the two days. He shot a 5-under 66 in the final round and even eagled the ninth hole to finish tied for 30th overall.
Missouri-Kansas City won the Invitational with an overall score of 829 (-23). The University of Texas—Rio Grande Valley (-9) finished in second place, while Texas El Paso and Missouri finished tied for third at -8. Hawaii, the only other Big West school to compete, finished tied for 13th place (+21).
The team's next tournament will be at the UCSB Intercollegiate in Santa Barbara, CA, beginning on April 15.
