SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The UC Riverside Women's Golf team will compete in the Gunrock Invitational beginning on Monday, excited by the course and the competition.
The Invitational, in its inaugural year, will be hosted at the Del Paso Country Club, which was the site of the 1957 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1964 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur, 1976 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1982 U.S. Women's Open and 2015 U.S. Senior Open.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and then 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Del Paso Country Club is a 6,224, Par 72 layout.
The Invitational, hosted by UC Davis, has a smaller field than other tournaments the Highlanders have competed in so far this season. The team will play Grand Canyon University for the third straight week, along with the likes of Cal Poly, Sacramento State and Cal Berkeley. A total of 11 schools will compete in the Invitational. Â
UCR's lineup will include: Ping Huang, Jakeishya Le, Hailey White, Hana Furuichi and Kayla Kwong.
The Highlanders were led by Huang during the Grand Canyon Invitational. She surged in the final round of competition, shooting a 69 (-3) to finish tied for 14th place.
