Baseball Looks to Bring Hot Bats to the Plex

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Highlander's baseball team have been swinging the bats well lately led by back-to-back Big West Player of the Week junior Connor Cannon. The offense combined to score 41 runs in four games this past week on the road.

Junior Connor Cannon powered his way to a second straight Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award. Cannon hit .588 (10-for-17) with five extra base hits, including three home runs in the New Mexico series, and finished the week with a 1.235 slugging percentage. He posted his second multi-homer game of the season with a pair of jacks in an 18-10 win at New Mexico on Friday. In that game, he set the school record for single-game RBI with eight. He extended his hitting streak to 17-game hitting streak.

The Highlanders only came away with one victory but all their losses were by one run. The team battled and lost a heartbreaker at LMU losing in extra innings and then falling in the eighth on Friday at New Mexico. The team outscored their opponents 41-36 on the week. Cannon set a school record with eight RBI in a game on Thursday. He finished the week batting .588 with three home runs and 11 RBI.
