RIVERSIDE, Calif.— University of California, Riverside, Head Men's Basketball Coach and Australian native, David Patrick, was recently named an assistant coach to the Australian Men's National Basketball Team for the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Having recently completed his first season as a Division I head basketball coach in the United States, the man responsible for recruiting Australian prep stars turned NBA superstars Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Ben Simmons (among others), will have the opportunity to represent Australia on a global stage.
In addition to his current duties as the head coach of the UC Riverside Men's team, Patrick is honored to add this special appointment to his growing resume.
"I am honored to be joining the Boomers coaching staff for the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo," said Patrick. "Coach Andrej Lemanis and his staff have done a magnificent job in their preparation and I am hopeful I can help them achieve continued success. Australian basketball is at an all-time high and has made its imprint globally. This is a great chance to learn from the best in the World during the summer, and help our Basketball Program at UCR continue to improve."
Coach Patrick will assist Lemanis and help lead an Australian program that made the semi-final round at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil, before winning the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup behind an impressive 6-0 record. The Australian Boomers' roster is one with extreme depth and star power featuring NBA players such as Joe Ingles, Andrew Bogut, Thon Maker and Aron Baynes.
