Baseball Excited to Get Back to the Plex This Week

RIVERSIDE, Calif. –Head Coach Troy Percival and the Baseball team looks forward to playing in front of a home crowd this week. It's been over a month since the team has heard the cheers of the Riverside fans. It's been a long month of travel that hasn't been kind to the Highlanders.

A month worth of travel that took the team to San Francisco down to New Orleans then to Vegas and back up to Davis, California. The Highlanders racked up well over 6,000 miles of travel in total during this wearisome month of baseball.

Percival touched on the long travels and expressed his enthusiasm for finally being back home, "I'm very excited and relieved to be back in Riverside. It's been a long, testing grind with all the constant travel."

The Highlanders will travel to Bakersfield for the last game of their 16-game road trip and then will be home in a Big West matchup versus Hawai'i.

CSU Bakersfield
The last time the baseball team played Bakersfield was back in 2017 at the Plex. The Roadrunners took two out of three in that series but all the games were battles with plenty of scoring. Riverside actually won the run differential 25-24 in that series. The team is led by junior Connor Cannon who is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. The Highlanders will look to gain some momentum to bring back to Riverside for their weekend series against Hawai'i.

Hawai'i
Playing in Manoa, Hawai'i for their Big West matchup last year, the Warriors took two of three from the Highlanders. Riverside won the run differential in this series as well coming away with 13 runs compared to Hawai'i's 12. Senior Dean Miller will look to continue to eat up Big West pitching in this matchup. Miller is batting a team high .423 with three home runs in conference play so far this season. He's also slugging a ridiculous .885% that leads the Big West by a large margin of 112 points.

The Highlanders travel to compete at Bakersfield on Tuesday, April 9th and will play at 6:00p.m.

Their home series against Hawai'i will be April 12-14 with the games on Friday and Saturday being played at 6:00p.m. while Sunday's game will be at 1:00p.m.
