UC Riverside Defeats Cal Lutheran

Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif.  Three days after requiring a monumental effort to climb back into the game and win on the road at Pacific, UC Riverside was tied with Cal Lutheran after the first quarter of play before going on an offensive outburst and defensive clampdown to defeat the Regals, 79-36, at SRC Arena.
 
In only the second game between the two programs in their histories, with 34 years since they last met on Dec. 11, 1987, three Highlanders scored in double figures, led by Jada Holland's 18 points, as the Highlanders hustled on defense after a 14-14 first quarter to hold Cal Lutheran to 25 percent shooting on the day.
 
Matehya Bryant pulled down 13 rebounds and had 6 steals as UC Riverside won their second straight and improved to 2-1. Cal Lutheran took its first loss of the season, falling to 1-1.
 
Next up for the Highlanders, an trip to Illinois Sunday at 4 p.m. PT, followed by an eight-day layoff over Thanksgiving before UCR visits Santa Clara Monday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m.
 
The Highlanders return home to host Arizona Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m.
