Highlanders Fall to CSUN on Senior Night

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside closed out the 2022 campaign on Thursday at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium with a 4-2 defeat to CSUN. 

UC Riverside saw early opportunities with shots in the third minute from Alyssa Carranza and Alexandra Hargrave, who made her 50th UCR appearance, before CSUN opened the scoring in the sixth minute. 

The Matadors would find the near post in the 14th minute to double their lead. 

Hargrave logged five shots on the night to tie a season high with one of them finding the back of the net in the 68th minute. The redshirt junior notched five shots in a match for the fourth time this season and third in Big West play. 

UCR kept knocking on the door in the first half, creating chances resulting in four shots in an eight-minute span. The Highlanders put up a season-high 19 shots on the night against CSUN's 14, creating a 33-shot outburst between the two sides. 

UCR also earned a season-high 13 corner kicks for the evening. 

11 of UC Riverside's 19 shots were spread amongst five the Highlanders' nine seniors playing their final match at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium, led by three shots from Kameron Henry and two apiece from Alyssa Carranza, Leyna Wood, McKenzie Moore and Natza Marin.

Outgoing seniors Caela Kaio and Danisia Elin shared the goalkeeping duties on their respective senior nights as well.
