Highlanders Draw 1-1 in Bakersfield with Late Game Goal

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders women's soccer team traveled north to Bakersfield to face off against the California State University Bakersfield (CSUB) Roadrunners on Sunday night.
CSU Bakersfield found the net in the sixth minute of play setting the Highlanders back 1-0 shortly after kickoff.
Despite the early disadvantage, Goalkeeper Cassia Souza posted another great night in the net, facing nine shots (seven on goal) and making six saves.
The Highlanders aggressive offense took 12 shots over the course of the game, four on goal, working hard in attempts to convert an opportunity.
The teams deadlocked over the next 80 minutes, until Leyna Wood scored an equalizing goal in the 86' off an assist from Alyssa Carranza, knotting the game at 1-1.
The draw is the Highlanders 7th this season.
The Highlanders return to Riverside to host the Cal Poly Mustangs on Thursday October 13 at 7pm.
