RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside closed out an offensively charged three-game set with UC Davis on Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex with a 12-8 setback to the Aggies in the series finale.
Jacob Badawi had himself yet another breakout game against the Aggies, going 3 for 4 in the finale with a run and three RBIs. After logging just six hits all season entering the weekend, the Chino Hills product went 8 for 14 in three games against UC Davis with four runs and five RBIs.
UCR punched back after a four-run first inning for Davis, piling on its second six-run inning in as many days to take a 6-4 lead after two innings. The Highlanders batted around in the frame, producing six runs on four hits.
UC Davis refused to go down quietly throughout the afternoon with a run in the fourth and fifth, and a run in the seventh to tie the game at seven. The Highlander defense prevented any further damage though on multiple occasions, leaving the Aggies with runners stranded in four innings throughout the day.
Davis put up five runs in the top of the ninth and UCR responded with a run in the home half, but it wasn't enough to complete the sweep.
UC Riverside travels to Las Vegas next for the second midweek matchup with UNLV of the year before picking back up in Big West play with a three-game series at Hawaii.
