Box Score SAN DIEGO - UC Riverside dropped a 3-1 decision to San Diego on Thursday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex at the University of San Diego.
Nadia Witt drove in the Highlanders' lone run of the game on a sixth-inning single to left field. UCR started the sixth with a leadoff single from Rebeca Cabezas, who came home on Witt's single for the freshman's fourth run of the season.
Taylor Burdette gave UC Riverside life in the seventh, reaching on a fielding error by the Torero shortstop before putting herself in scoring position with a steal of second to erase the force out. Burdette, who is now 6 for 7 on the year in stolen bases, could not come home though after a strikeout and groundout put the game to rest.
Brooke Perez suffered her first loss of the season in six appearances, going 2.0 innings before coming out of the circle for Maddie Heinlin.
UC Riverside is back in action on Tuesday, March 14 for a doubleheader with Columbia at Amy S. Harrison Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
