Box Score SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders travelled to Baggett Stadium to challenge the Mustangs of Cal Poly to open the weekend's Big West series on Thursday, April 6.
Although they started the game with a run in the first inning, the Mustangs toppled the Highlanders 13-2.
Jayden Lopez scored the first run of the game in the top of the first on a wild pitch. UC Riverside didn't score again until the top of the fifth, when again, they found home on a wild pitch. This time Mason Grace crossed home for the Highlanders.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs had already dealt a considerable amount of damage to UC Riverside, scoring 13 runs in the first four innings.
After the Highlanders' second and final run in the fifth inning, neither team would score again, resulting in four scoreless innings and a final score of 13-2 in favor of Cal Poly.
The Highlanders return to Baggett Stadium tomorrow, Friday, April 7 for game two at 6:00 PM.
