SOMIS, Calif. - UC Riverside benefited from standout performances among its young corps during Monday's first two rounds of the annual Bill Cullum Invitational at the Saticoy Club in Somis.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR is second on the team leaderboard of six with a one-shot lead over tournament host CSUN.  
• True freshman Stephen Luo (T3) shot a 70 (-2) to open his first collegiate tournament. Luo started the day on the second hole and was 2-under for his first nine holes in round one before shooting even par on the back nine.  
• Kamaljit Singh (17th) and true freshman Hartej Grewal (T3) also found success on the second half of the front nine. Grewal carded a 71 (-1) in round one and finished the day with a 73 (+1) in round two.  
• Chanhee Ryu is UCR's leading individual in eighth after shooting 71-77-148 on day one.  

NOTABLES 

• Luo and Tyler Leibl (43rd) made their Highlander debuts on Monday.  
• Collectively, the Highlanders are second in the field with a 4.93 stroke average on par 5s and have the fewest bogeys overall.  
• Luo and Grewal are both in the top three of the individual leaderboard after 36 holes following a couple of rounds under par. Grewal's came in round one, his third such round for the young season.  
• Four Highlanders – three from the lineup and one individual – best their first-round scores.
