RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Maya Chocano was named a Kay Yow Servant Leader for the 2025-2026 season and is one of 61 athletes selected for this honor. As part of this honor, she will wear a patch on her jersey throughout the season recognizing her as a Kay Yow Servant Leader.
"I'm honored to be recognized as the Kay Yow Servant Leader," said Chocano. "For me, it's about leading with humility, supporting my teammates and carrying forward the values Coach Yow stood for."
According to KayYow.com recipients of this honor are people of great character who put the needs of others before their own and do so grace and humility. Players are nominated by their coach and exemplify Coach Yow's spirit.

Brad Langston. "The Kay Yow Award is more than about basketball. It is about courage, character and lifting up others in the fight against cancer."
Kay Yow battled breast cancer for 22 years and her fight was public. By doing so, Coach Yow hoped she could inspire others to make a difference, and she counted on the sports community to advance her cause.
"Maya has a heart for people," Langston added, "and this honor is so well deserved."
