Baseball Falls to Titans in Game One

Pitts extends on-base streak to 22

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (10-12, 2-5Big West) returned to the Riverside Sports Complex on Friday night to start a three-game set with Cal State Fullerton, falling 12-1.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • UCR threatened in the bottom of the first with two runners on. Robert Pitts reached third after his leadoff single.  
  • UC Riverside scored its only run of the contest in the second inning. The Highlanders cut into Fullerton's 3-0 lead on an RBI double from Ethan Bergan after Tyler Gordon started the inning with a leadoff single.  
  • The Highlanders put two runners on once more in the sixth inning, advancing a runner to third on a balk. 
  • UCR stranded a pair of Titans on second and third in the seventh inning as Marco DiGirolamo recorded his second strikeout of the inning to retire the side.  

NOTABLES 

  • Pitts extended his on-base streak to 22 games.  
  • The Highlander bullpen combined for six of the team's seven strikeouts on the night.
