LA JOLLA, Calif. — The UC Riverside Highlanders opened the UC San Diego Invitational with a team score of 303 (+15), finishing the first round tied for third place at Torrey Pines South Course. Competing in a field of 18 teams and 99 golfers, the Highlanders were led by
Hartej Grewal, who carded a steady opening-round 74.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hartej Grewal paced the Highlanders with a 2-over 74, tying for eighth place on the individual leaderboard. He recorded a birdie on hole 2 and an eagle on 6, keeping UC Riverside near the top of the team standings.
- Von Wasson and Stephen Luo each shot 76 (+4) to tie for 19th. Wasson was steady with 14 pars on the round, while Luo bounced back from a double bogey on the par-4 fourth hole while recording a birdie on hole 3.
- Liam Hartling and Mark Gao both carded 77 (+5) to sit in a tie for 32nd place. Hartling birdied the par-5 13th and the par-5 18th, while Gao's round included birdies on holes 6, and 9.
