UC Riverside vs. Long Beach State Game Notes
The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team rings in the New Year with three straight home games at the Student Recreation Center beginning with a January 2, 7 pm PT tilt against Long Beach State. UCR fans can listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
The Highlanders are 5-0 at home this season and 17-2 since the start of the 2008-09 campaign. The road has not been as kind to UC Riverside where they are 1-6. The Highlanders have lost three straight games entering Saturday night’s contest with the 49ers, all of which came on the road.
Long Beach State enters the game with three straight road losses as well having fallen to Loyola Marymount, Kentucky and Duke over the past two weeks.
The Highlanders won both meetings with The Beach a year ago including a 73-70 double overtime victory on February 11, 2009. Aaron Scott (26 points) and Kyle Austin (23 points) led the UCR offensive effort, and two free throws by Javon Borum sealed the win.
Saturday’s game will be a contrast in styles as LBSU boasts the Big West’s top scoring offense averaging 75.2 points per game while the Highlanders bring the conference’s second most stingy defense allowing just 63.6 points per contest.. The Beach has four players averaging double figures in scoring led by T.J. Robinson’s 16.2
