UC Riverside at Cal State Northridge Game Notes
After opening the Big West season with three straight home games, the UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team hits the road for its next four conference contests beginning with a Thursday, January 14 meeting with the Matadors of Cal State Northridge. It is UCR’s longest conference road swing since joining the Big West in the 2001-02 season. Tip is scheduled for 7:05 pm at The Matadome and UCR fans can also listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
The Highlanders enter the game with Northridge having lost their last two including Saturday’s 69-56 defeat at the hands of Cal State Fullerton. Kyle Austin continues to lead UCR’s offensive charge averaging 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game—the third best averages in the conference.
The Matadors won both games between the clubs a year ago and have a 10-game winning streak in the series. The last time the Highlanders beat Cal State Northridge was on March 4, 2004 in a 72-71 overtime decision on the road. That is the longest active losing streak for UC Riverside against any Big West opponent.
Northridge is led by the scoring tandem of Kenny Daniels (14.3 ppg) and Lenny Daniel (10.7). The Matadors enter Thursday’s game having just snapped a seven-game losing streak following their 98-90 win over Seattle on Monday evening.
