The Highlanders stretch of four consecutive road games continues Saturday with a 7 pm tip time at UC Santa Barbara, and UCR fans can listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com. UCR dropped the first of those four games Thursday in a 64-50 loss at Cal State Northridge. It was the team’s third straight loss and dropped the Highlanders to 1-3 in conference and 7-9 overall.
Kyle Austin continues to lead the UC Riverside offensive attack averaging 16.3 points per game while pacing the team in scoring in 11 of 16 games on the year
The Highlanders and UC Santa Barbara squared off against one another two short weeks ago in the second conference game for both squads, and the Gauchos came away with a 57-53 win scoring the final seven points of the game. Austin scored 20 points in the game and Rudy Meo added 15. Orlando Johnson (16.7 ppg) and James Nunnally (12.6) are UCSB’s leading scorers, and they combined for 36 points in the earlier win over UCR.
That win was the first of three in a row for the Gauchos who had that streak snapped in a 67-47 loss at Long Beach State on January 14. Johnson scored 12 points in the win, but Nunnally was limited to four and committed six of the Gauchos 29 turnovers on the night.
