UC Riverside vs. Lamar (at SMU) Game Notes
Dallas, TX—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team (1-1) travels to Dallas, Texas this weekend for a three-day, three-game tournament hosted by SMU that will see them square off against Lamar (Friday, Nov. 19 at 10:30 am PT), the host Mustangs (Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 pm) and Portland State (Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 pm).
Fans who are unable to attend the games can listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, call the game from courtside online via Stretch Internet's GameCentral. Fans can also follow the games from their computers via SMU's GameTracker.
It is the first in-season tournament for the Highlanders during the Jim Wooldridge era, and just the second for the team since UCR made the transition to Division I ten seasons ago.
The last time UCR played in a tournament such as this, which requires teams to play on three consecutive days, was at the beginning of the 2006-07 season. The Iowa State Cyclones hosted the event which saw the Highlanders lose 69-61 to Iowa State on November 10, upend Eastern Illinois on November 11 by a 64-55 score, and drop a 76-64 decision to Louisiana Monroe on November 12.
UCR and Lamar have played one another on just one other occasion prior to this weekend's meeting. The Cardinals took an 89-55 win over the Highlanders on December 17, 1986. This will be the first game between UC Riverside and SMU, while the Highlanders and Portland State Vikings split their two previous meetings from the 1970s.
