A Win And They're In? Not Quite. MBK Tiebreaker Scenarios Explained

UC Riverside at Long Beach State Game Notes
A win and they’re in?
Not quite, but the odds of the Highlanders grabbing a spot in the Big West’s postseason tournament would increase dramatically with a victory over Long Beach State on Friday, March 5. That would improve UCR’s record to 6-10 and guarantee at least a tie with UC Irvine who at 5-10 is also battling for a spot in the conference tourney.
Tip time Friday evening is 7:30 pm PT, and fans who are unable to attend may listen to The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, call the game from courtside right here on gohighlanders.com. The game is also being televised locally on FSN West.
The Highlanders have the tiebreaker with the Anteaters by virtue of winning both meetings between the clubs this year. The wrench in the works comes if UC Riverside and UC Irvine wind up with the same record as Cal State Northridge, who currently sits at 5-9. In that scenario, the Highlanders are on the outside looking in.
The first tiebreaker is record against the other two teams involved in the tie. All three teams are a combined 2-2 against one another this season. The second tiebreaker is the teams’ record against the top seed in the conference. UC Santa Barbara clinched the No. 1 seed Wednesday evening with a win over the Anteaters. UCR is 0-2 against the Gauchos this year, while UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge are both 1-1.
