UC Riverside vs. Cal State Northridge Game Notes
Riverside—With three weeks left in the college baseball season, the Highlanders need to get on a roll to climb the Big West standings and impress the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. UC Riverside is currently in fourth place in conference with a 7-8 mark, two-and-a-half games behind third place Pacific (11-7). The Highlanders host Cal State Northridge in a three-game series this weekend beginning Friday evening at The Riverside Sports Complex, while the Tigers play CSU Bakersfield in a non-conference series.
Fans who are unable to attend the series may listen to The Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, call all the action on gohighlanders.com.
UC Riverside fans will also want to tune in to see what Tony Nix does for an encore to his six-for-six performance Wednesday evening in the Highlanders 16-6 win over visiting Loyola Marymount. Those six hits tied the UCR mark for hits in a game established three times previously by Tom Copeland vs. Cal Baptist in 1981, Andy Owen vs. Chapman in 1994 and David White vs. Chico State in 1996.
In three games this week, Nix is 11 for 14 (.786) with seven runs scored, nine RBIs, five doubles, a triple and a home run. All of that computes to a .786 on base percentage and a 1.500 slugging percentage, while raising his batting average by 69 points to .325.
The junior outfielder also has seven consecutive hits, which is four shy of Matt Teahen's school record of 11 set back in the 2000 season. The NCAA mark is 14 set by Larry Patterson while at Gonzaga during the 1977 season.
The Highlanders pitching rotation this weekend consists of Matt Andriese (4-4, 4.87) on Friday, Dustin Emmons (6-4, 3.59) on Saturday and Matt Larkins (5-3, 4.70) on Sunday.
