Men's Soccer Looks To Even Record Sunday Against Loyola Marymount
9/25/2010 2:30:55 PM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team is 3-4-0 on the season following Friday evening's 1-0 win over Air Force at the UCR Soccer Stadium. Next up is a Sunday 7 pm PT home meeting with Loyola Marymount in the Highlanders' final non-conference match before the start of Big West play. Fans who are unable to attend the match may follow along on their computers or mobile devices via LiveStats.
A win over the Lions would raise UC Riverside's record to the .500 mark. The last time the Highlanders were at .500 was on November 7, 2007 when a 2-0 win over UC Irvine improved their record to 5-5-6. A win over LMU would also tie the school record for non-conference wins in a season set by the 2003 squad which went 4-4-0 outside of Big West competition.
The Lions are 4-3-0 on the year following a 4-1 win over Cal Poly on September 23. That win snapped a three-match losing streak for Loyola Marymount which included losses to Butler (3-1), Sacramento State (1-0) and San Jose State (2-1). LMU has one other win on the year against a Big West opponent—a 2-0 victory over Cal State Northridge on September 5.
The Highlanders and Lions have met on five prior occasions with LMU winning all five. The most recent meeting between the teams was also its closest in terms of a result, as Loyola Marymount picked up a 1-0 win last year on September 24. The Lions were ranked 20th in the nation at the time.
