No. 9 UC Irvine 3, UC Riverside 0 - Box Score
Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team opened Big West Conference play Wednesday evening on the road at 9th-ranked UC Irvine. Despite being outshot 11-2 in the first, the Highlanders went into the break tied at zero, but after the intermission, the Anteaters found their offensive rhythm on their way to a 3-0 victory.
UC Irvine's Amani Walker put the Anteaters on the board less than two minutes into the second half as Miguel Ibarra found him with a through ball, and Walker's shot to the left post made its way past the UCR defenses.
Ibarra was on the distribution end of UC Irvine's second goal in the 63rd minute of play when another through ball found its way to the feet of Gray Bailey for his second score of the season and a 2-0 UCI advantage. Just over a minute later, the Anteaters made it 3-0 when Christian Hernandez scored on a breakaway.
The Highlanders return home this weekend for a Saturday, October 2 meeting with Cal Poly. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm PT at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
