UC Riverside vs. UC Santa Barbara Game Notes
Santa Barbara, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team is 2-1 in Big West play for the second time in the past three seasons, but a win over UC Santa Barbara on Saturday would give the team its first-ever 3-1 start in conference. Fans who are unable to make the trip may listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, bring the call form courtside to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
The Highlanders have historically struggled against the Gauchos, however, with UCSB owning a 22-5 career mark against UCR including each of the last three games and nine of 10.
UC Santa Barbara is 5-1 at home this season, thanks in large part to the offensive exploits of Orlando Johnson (18.9 ppg) and James Nunnally (18.1). The duo ranks first and second overall in the Big West in scoring, and the Gauchos are connecting on a league-best 45.8 percent of their field goal attempts.
In conference play, however, it is UC Riverside’s Javon Borum who tops the scoring charts carrying a 25.3 points per game scoring average through three Big West games. The Highlanders also boast the second best defensive field goal percentage in the conference holding the opposition to 40.8 percent shooting.
