UC Riverside at UC Davis Game Notes
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team looks to get back on the winning track this week with a two-game trip northward to UC Davis on Thursday, January 27 and Pacific on Saturday, January 29. Tip at UCD is slated for 7 pm PT, and fans who are unable to attend the games may listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, as he brings the call from courtside to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
The Highlanders (7-10, 2-3) have dropped two straight in conference play and three of its last four after opening the season with an impressive road win at UC Irvine. Both of UCR’s Big West Conference wins this year have come on the road as the Highlanders upended Cal State Northridge, 70-61, back on January 13.
The Aggies (6-12) are just 1-5 in conference this season having dropped five straight after opening the year with an 88-72 win at Cal State Fullerton. Their most recent defeat came in a 33-point home loss to Pacific.
Joe Harden leads a trio of Aggies in double-digit scoring at 14.6 points per game, but UCD’s Achilles heal this season has been on the defensive end where they are allowing opponents to connect on 44.7 percent of their field goal attempts including 36.3 percent from long distance. The Aggies also get out-rebounded by an average of 5.6 boards per game on the year.
UC Riverside and UC Davis used to meet on a regular basis from the mid-60s through 2000 when the Highlanders made the move to the Big West. The Aggies followed several years later, and have won three of four against the Highlanders since joining the conference. UCD won both meetings a year ago including a 66-43 win at The Pavilion.
